Cancer Sugar Connection (Why Is Sugar Called “White Death”)

The cancer sugar connection and why it needs to be eliminated from your diet.

You know that feeling you get when you have a piece of cake or a bar of chocolate? That comforting pleasure feeling, mainly caused by the beta-endorphins rushing to your brain. As pleasurable as it may be, sugar is not your friend, sugar is your enemy.

In fact, regular consumption of foods containing sugar is one of the worst things you can do for your health and overall wellbeing. Mounting scientific research shows that consumption of sugar, in whatever form, harms your health in so many ways, we will have a look at sugar and cancer later in the article.

When sugar was introduced into the western diet it was seen as a luxury and consumption was limited, but as time passed sugar intake increased dramatically.  Sugar intake has increased from around 2 kilos per person per year in 1700 to a massive 90 kilos per person per year in 2012.

We can see from health records that in 1890 there were 3 people diagnosed with diabetes out of 100,000 people, but in 2012 that number had jumped to 8,000 out of 100,000. Today the numbers continue to increase. Is there a correlation? I will let you decide.

Sugar Addiction

The industry targets our children, especially with highly addictive (HFCS) high fructose corn syrup, which contains both fructose and glucose, since they are not bound together the fructose goes directly to the liver which turns it into fat (VLDL and triglycerides).

HFCS is now the highest source of calories for the average American, perhaps due to the fact that fructose does not stimulate insulin, in turn not suppressing ghrelin (the hunger hormone) so you do not feel satiated and continue to consume more. The same process also keeps the immune system suppressed.

Even if you decide to avoid HFCS it will not be enough. All processed sugars, when taken in excess, have an effect on the immune function of the body leading to obesity and diabetes. So why do we not cut sugar entirely from our diet? That is easier said than done, sugar is highly addictive.

Dr. Serge Ahmed of Bordeaux, France has been studying addiction and has shown that sugar is more addictive than cocaine. Sugar produces dopamine, a happy, feel-good chemical that people crave. People get addicted to sugar and need it to feel “normal” and cutting sugar from their diet leads to “withdrawal symptoms” so they become trapped in their own “sugar addiction”

Maybe, for this reason, there are now calls to treat sugar like smoking, over the past decade, smoking has become marginalized and stigmatized. From the smoking ban in 2007 to the introduction of plain packaging a decade later, everything has been done to discourage people from taking up the habit.

And there are signs sugar is heading in the same direction. Sugary drinks are already taxed – and now a leading think tank has even suggested sweets, snacks, and sugary drinks should be wrapped in plain packaging to make them less appealing, given the excess consumption of the sweet stuff. Until that time arrives we can try to limit sugar consumption individually,  more so if there is a history of cancer in your family.

Sugar Fuels Cancer Cells

It is widely accepted that sugar is cancers favorite food due to the anaerobic respiratory function exhibited by all cancer cells. In America and increasingly throughout the world half of the white sugar comes from genetically modified beets with all related risks. This is yet another reason to leave the “White Death” out of your daily eating habits.

If you are worried about cancer or are recovering from any type of cancer, or simply trying to keep better dietary habits we recommend you to stay away from white sugar, brown sugar, and Agave. Eliminate all artificial sweetener such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. The best thing is to use pure organic green stevia, xylitol, raw honey, pure maple syrup, molasses, and perhaps coconut sugar.

For good health, you have to control your sugar intake before it takes control of you.
